the basics ⮟
Name: Eikre
Race: Viera
Age: 30
Height: 6'1" / 186 cm
Eyes: Turquoise.
Hair: Dark purple with light highlights, draping down to just past her shoulder blades.
Skin: A cool taupe, usually awash with a warm golden flush from the sun.
appearance ⮟
Tall and svelte, all of Eikre's lean frame is packed with muscle from years of training (and hardship). She moves with grace, always seeming to have an acute understanding of where she is in her environment. Her large, warm eyes are usually accompanied with an easy smile, her ears standing tall and alert. Eikre wears simple traveling gear, most of the time, preferring to spend the bulk of her adventuring money on other things or other people. She's most often clad in a sturdy leather long coat, a white shirt, dark gloves, and simple pants.
On top of these are gleaming black-and-gold tinted metal gauntlets, her Doman-made gunblade, and protective gold-tinted greaves, since trouble seems to find her more often than not. Underneath her gloves, which she rarely takes off around others, is a small collection of scars that map her life. Notably: a jagged scar on her right index finger from prey that bit back as a child, a small ceruleum burn on the side of her right thumb from Castrum Meridianum, and a thin scar on the top of her left hand from Nidhogg on the Steps of Faith. She's self-conscious of her hands and the damage they've taken, which is largely the reason that she hides them all of the time.
personality ⮟
Eikre is a friendly and gregarious person — at least in small groups of people — who is well-spoken (surprisingly, to some) and is largely focused on others or her environment. She finds it difficult to turn away anyone who needs her help. And even if turned away from assisting others at first, Eikre's stubborn nature usually means that she'll find some way to help them. This stems largely from her travels with her mother, who impressed upon her the need to be compassionate above all else. At times, this compassion doesn't work in her favor, such as for apparent enemies — but she listens to that small voice within, regardless. Even if it means admitting, later, that it may have been the wrong time to extend the olive branch. Eikre sees and believes in the best in people. Over the years it's gotten a little harder, what with all that she's seen, but that doesn't stop her.
Contrary to what some might say, this doesn't mean that Eikre is a pushover. Those who harm innocents in front of her have a much harder time getting a compassionate response; she can hold grudges against them for quite a while. This is a result of the bloodshed and violence that she's seen in more recent years, which have left a lasting mark on her. In intense fights and battles, she can get caught up in the moment and let her retributive anger take hold — sometimes needing someone to call out and metaphorically steady her, if she's pressing herself too hard. In fact, she often flings herself into very dangerous situations without a single thought to her own safety. Strategy isn't exactly her strongest suit.
But overall, her optimism and friendliness toward the people of Hydaelyn has changed little over the years. She has a cheeky sense of humor that's gentle with friends and bold with those being antagonistic toward her or others. But outside of casual conversation, she can feel lost quickly. Eikre speaks from the heart, naturally inclined to complete earnestness. And thus, politics is a daunting subject. While she's more than happy to mediate or attend a meeting (again, to help others), she hates any moment she has to obscure her intentions. This is why she's the quietest of the Scions — mindful of the fact that, at times, subtlety is required, and also mindful that she's about as subtle as an axe.
Friends and social connections are important to Eikre, who will usually pay a visit to friends (even if it's brief) when she's traveling through the area. With her stronger friendships, she'll write letters updating them on her recent adventures — and she does also like to tell people about them in person, with enthusiasm, when she feels they're interesting. Sometimes she'll also pick up a small trinket or two for friends and send it along with the letters, if looking at something made her think of them. Her pack is littered with knickknacks — Feo Ul was right about all of the random items.
Those who know her well are never surprised to see her up and on the move, even when recovering from injuries. Eikre gets antsy if she's idle for too long, always needing to be doing something. Even if she's confined to a small area — such as a city rather than a region — Eikre will be bustling about, performing chores or tasks. This isn't to say that she can't sit down and enjoy a lazy day every once in a while — she does relish being able to do so with friends, rather than being alone as she usually is. But she loves and prefers to do so outdoors, rather than indoors — preferably sitting and sketching a landscape.
Positives: Warm, friendly, optimistic, compassionate, adventurous. Has a dry, gently sassy sense of humor. Will help anyone who asks her for aid and has strong protective instincts.
Negatives: Workaholic, antsy when not doing anything (mostly indoors), guarded with her thoughts concerning herself, doesn't always think things through re: her own safety. Extremely stubborn about things she feels strongly over.
skills ⮟
Martial Prowess: These are the skills for which Eikre is best known, gained as a child when she was forced to hunt alone for her food to survive and then honed by the Immortal Flames and years of adventuring. Eikre started out with a gladitorial discipline, but found that she had a knack for fighting and found a thrill in learning new tactics and styles. Over the course of her tenure as Eorzea's champion, she has acquired many and practices as much as she can. Her fighting style is now largely that of a gunbreaker, using a gunblade, but incorporates the agility of the dragoon (picked up from her stay in Ishgard), the awareness of the ninja (picked up from Doman refugees), and the pure destructive energy of the warrior (picked up while she was a newly set out adventurer). She has almost no focus for magic, only able to imbue her ammunition and manipulate her ether, which is something that Alphinaud often teases her about.
Memory/Experience: While Eikre may not always remember someone's exact name, she rarely forgets people entirely. Gregariously social (in small groups) and enthusiastic to learn new things, she has absorbed a great deal on her journeys and will use that information to the fullest. She has an immense network of friendships thanks to her kindness and adventures; she understands how to acquire information, meet people, and get things done effectively, something the Scions have come to rely on her for.
Botany: In the beginning, this skill was necessary for survival. It was important to know what plants she could and couldn't eat, and was often the difference between going hungry and not. But as Eikre's position in Ul'dah stabilized, her interest in plants grew. It become a full-blown hobby when she left the Flames to be an adventurer, even signing up with the guild in Gridania when a fellow botanist noticed her jotting down notes. As she's traveled, she's filled an entire journal with such notes and continued to work closely with the guild when she can. All of her findings and discoveries, however, are attributed to an individual named as E.A. on paper (hers and her mother's name), as she wants to keep her botany firmly separate from her position as the Warrior of Light. Only her close scion friends and a few botanists in the guild know the truth.
Sketching: Eikre carries two journals: one for botany and the other purely for art, though she does sketch plants in the former. Her mother insisted that she learn some sort of artistic talent and Eikre soon discovered a love of sketching landscapes and cityscapes. People she sketches loosely, and not very often; more of an impression than firm lines. When she joined the Scions and had to share so much of herself and her time with people, Eikre decided to keep her artistic talents hidden as an indulgence; a quiet pleasure just for herself. She only feels comfortable showing close friends her work, calmly closing her journal and putting it away if anyone else starts to pry.
history ⮟
Eikre's mother, Amalia, was filled with wanderlust from a very young age and often clashed with her own Rava mother and sisters on the subjects of tradition. After a particularly explosive argument, she decided to take her newborn daughter and do what she'd wanted since she was a child — see the world. Though Amalia was banished for this, she was excited to live out her dream and made her peace with never being able to return home. Other than the outlines of trees and birdsong, Eikre remembers nothing of the Golmore Jungle — just traveling with her mother, a talented seamstress and weaver who would barter with items or her skills in repairing clothing. Her travels with her mother would forever leave their mark, imparting a love of learning about new cultures and seeing new places.
When Eikre was ten years old, she and Amalia had made it as far as Thanalan when they were attacked by bandits on the road. Though Amalia was able to fight off the attack, she was mortally wounded. She and Eikre made it to Ul'Dah before her wounds claimed her life, and Eikre was left alone in a new city. She was forced to survive on the skills she'd picked up from her mother, hunting for food and repairing the shoes and clothes of others to earn enough gil to buy what she needed. It was on one of these hunting trips that she chanced on a member of the Immortal Flames, who was encouraged by the promise she showed and offered to teach her more ways to defend herself. Not seeing a way out any other way, and wanting to learn more, Eikre joined the Flames in earnest not long after.
Though she enjoyed the competitive nature of her comrades — and growing stronger and stronger with a blade — Eikre was less enthused, overall, by the guard duty in quiet places that she was usually assigned to. After a few years of dedicated service, the itch to travel hit her hard. Luckily, the Flames were willing to work with her, allowing her to take a "break" so long as she would come to their aid if they needed her. Eikre would spend some years after traveling through the lands surrounding Thanalan — through the Shroud and Coerthas — before she would make her way back to Ul'Dah to fulfill her promise to the Flames. That was her intention, anyway. Instead, she found herself Awakened, signing up with the Adventurer's Guild, and eventually meeting the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. The Flames weren't terribly surprised to see her again, though they were surprised that she was the one who vanquished Ifrit.
random tidbits ⮟
Lying: Owing to her mislike of dishonesty and inclination toward earnestness, Eikre cannot lie to save her life. Whenever she disguises herself for a mission and it goes off without a hitch, it might as well be declared a miracle. Thancred usually says as much, pressuring her to be the strong and silent type she usually is instead of saying anything.
Companion: Eikre is accompanied on her adventures by her chocobo, Millie, whom she is exceedingly fond of. She quite often baby-talks her bird and gives her an extra treat or two, ignoring anyone who might roll their eyes or tease her about that behavior.
Love Languages: Acts of service (do you need something? please let her handle it) and physical touch (for friends: gentle little touches with her hands; for a romantic interest: the same, with soft little forehead bonks or leaning against the person).
relationships ⮟
(Please note that these aren't set in stone, and that I'm willing to wiggle in threads! Also, there are some Shadowbringers spoilers here, if you're not up to that.)
Alphinaud: Though Eikre was initially distrustful and unimpressed with the young elezen at first, ending up in Ishgard with he and Tataru changed their relationship forever. Seeing him struggle to find himself after the events of the Crystal Braves, Eikre resolved to be a firm rock for him and provide what guidance she could. As time has gone on, Eikre has come to think of him as a little brother, able to bare her heart to him without fear — even personal concerns that she'd never bring up with anyone else. She is fiercely protective of him in battle.
Alisaie: From the first, Eikre and Alisaie have seen largely eye-to-eye. They have a similar passion for the safety and well-being of others, and can often be found leading the charge into battle right next to each other. Just as with Alphinaud, Eikre is protective of her, using her own body as a bulwark if need be.
Minfilia: At first, Eikre was awkward around the Scions' antecedent, not really knowing what her exact place within the group was. But as time wore on, Eikre and Minfilia grew close, and she was relieved to meet someone so much like her — after a childhood of feeling alone, thanks to not encountering many other Viera. Having someone else around with the Echo made all the difference. When she was taken into the astral sea by Hydaelyn, Eikre was devastated — though she tried to hide it as best she could.
Thancred: As the first Scion Eikre met, she's always felt comfortable around Thancred. The two have a teasing, slightly biting relationship, and she views him almost as a brother (and thus, Ryne as a niece).
Y'shtola: 'Shtola's sharp sense of humor has always been good at catching Eikre off-guard. She has a great deal of affection for her, even if she routinely turns Eikre into a flustered mess with some of her pointed comments.
Urianger: As someone who grew up as a streetrat, it took a long time for Eikre to warm up with the wordy scholar. Urianger's penchant for secrecy didn't help matters, what with Eikre being so naturally guileless. But eventually she grew to respect him immensely, especially after the events of the Warriors of Darkness and then the First. Urianger is one of the few who knows about Eikre's "secret" moonlighting as a botanist, having helped her in her more difficult bouts of research.
bonus fun (tvtropes) ⮟
⮞ Action Girl: Ayup.
⮞ Big Sister Instinct: For Alphinaud and Alisaie. But also for just about any other soul who happens to cross her path, even if she isn't verbal about it.
⮞ Weapon of Choice: Gunblades.
⮞ All Loving Hero: Helping people who need it is (mostly) all she wants to do in life.
⮞ Beware the Nice Ones: Eikre is warm and kind. But in a fight, when pissed off, every single with-held act of aggression comes out and she turns into a force of pure destruction.
⮞ Badass Longcoat: Most of the time, in true Gunbreaker fashion.
⮞ Statuesque Stunner: At 6'1", with long ears that extend further upward, Eikre is usually one of the tallest people in the room. Unless she's in Ishgard. Maybe that's why she likes Ishgard so much.
⮞ Friend to All Children: If a kid asks her to stop and do a thing, she will drop everything to help them out. She also tends to make friends with local kids if she stays anywhere for long, and will bring them little trinkets from her travels when she returns.
⮞ Street Smart: Eikre knows very little of politics or academics, but she certainly knows how to find her way around a city and sniff up leads.
⮞ Naive Newcomer: (Not so) deep down, Eikre is a firm idealist who believes in the best in people. This can have terrible consequences, but she's refused to become cynical and jaded. And it does inspire others, for all the trouble it gets her in.
⮞ The Heart: She does her best to support her friends and make sure that they're all right.
⮞ Stone Wall: Eikre puts herself in between her allies and danger and soaks the damage so that they don't have to. Accordingly, she usually has at least one cut or burn on her person that's healing up.
⮞ Good Is Not Soft: She will put an exploding sword in your face if you hurt her friends, or anyone else. And if you do worse than that, she'll be the Spanner in the Works who brings down your entire operation. (She'll try, at least.)
⮞ The Quiet One: Among the Scions, Eikre is this. She weighs her words carefully, and from the heart. Not so much her actions, but her words...
⮞ Trauma Button: Please don't mention The Bloody Banquet. It was highly traumatic for an adoptive Ul'dahn.
⮞ Deadpan Snarker: Eikre's chosen form of humor, though she tends to be quite eloquent when she goes about it.
⮞ Cannot Talk to Women (Or Men): Going off to fight a primal or save somebody from a monster? Easy. Being flirted with in any capacity? The hardest thing in the world. She can keep herself together for a bit, but if she likes the person in question she'll start blushing furiously and look away. (On the plus side, easy to tell that she likes you!)
⮞ Determinator: She doesn't give up, even if the odds are so stacked against her that they're seen as hopeless. On one hand: brave. On the other hand, given what she's usually up against: insane.

⮞ kissing: Strangers (or even just casual acquaintances) trying to kiss Eikre will be punched in the jaw. And she won't pull it. Others closer to her will fare better.
⮞ physical violence: Yes. Whether she's the Warrior of Light or just an adventurer in a particular thread, Eikre is more than capable of looking after herself.

first impressions ⮟
⮞ visual: 6'1" (186 cm), not counting her ears. Which stand tall, most of the time.
⮞ aural: Eikre has a voice in the middle register. Not high, but not terribly low, either. There's usually a note of joy or mischief in it.
⮞ olfactory: Gunmetal. Leather. Warm fur.
⮞ demeanor: As tall and potentially imposing as she can be to some, Eikre is rarely found with anything more severe than an expression of neutrality. Even when making a mischievous comment, she's smiling, to show that she means it in good jest. She usually stands with her arms crossed over her chest, one hip lower than the other. Prepared for near-anything.
⮞ texting: In writing, Eikre has a surprisingly beautiful hand reminiscent of calligraphy that her mother, a scholar, taught her. Via linkpearl, she's usually distracted by some crisis at hand and can be hard to get a hold of.
